Slotting Allowance

A slotting allowance is a fee paid by a manufacturer to a retailer to provide shelf space — or, a “slot” — for a new product. The payment ostensibly covers the administrative and labor-related costs of adding a new item to the system, as well the potential lost sales involved in making room for an unproven product.
